When You Lose Motivation

Sometimes, you feel like you need more motivation to do anything. Motivation is one of the reasons you are pushed into action, and it keeps you moving each day. What can you do when you lose motivation? Before we discuss strategies for overcoming this loss, let’s begin by asking ourselves these questions.

What are the causes of losing motivation?

Why do we lose motivation?

What can we do to regain our confidence during challenging times?

How can we take this loss of motivation as a learning lesson for success?

Now that you have answered these questions, let’s discuss how we lose motivation through inaction, unrealistic goals, and lack of purpose.

No progress

After you set your goals, you will begin to progress towards achieving them. However, you see no progress in your goal over the next few months. As a result, you need more motivation to achieve them. Remember what you are trying to reach to overcome the loss of motivation.

We will discuss why we lose motivation when we make no progress, set unrealistic goals, or lack purpose.

Unrealistic goals

If you want to accomplish your goals in the long or short term, make sure you set realistic goals. Setting unrealistic goals will only cause more stress, depression, and anxiety. Therefore, begin by setting small goals until you can accomplish larger ones. Use the “smart goals” worksheet on my website's resources page to start your goal-setting journey. This free template will help you organize and set your goals.

Lacking Purpose

When you do not have a reason or purpose for doing something, you may lose motivation and feel lost. To overcome this, explore hobbies or volunteer at a soup kitchen. Keeping yourself distracted will help you find your purpose.

Envision your success

Achieving your goals can be challenging, and sometimes, you may feel unmotivated. Therefore, you may begin to lose hope in ever achieving success. However, by envisioning your success, you can create step-by-step goals toward achieving your goals. Finally, this method works effectively when you procrastinate and do not feel motivated.
